Fueled by a June record for the TSX sports sedan and continued steady sales of the TL performance luxury sedan, Acura sold 15,107 units during the month, the division announced today. In addition, year-to-date sales reached 96,301 units.
The TSX sports sedan continued its sales momentum in 2006 with record-setting June sales of 3,162 units, breaking the previous record, set last year, by 2.5 percent. Year-to-date TSX sales reached 19,826 -- up more than 11 percent versus 2005.
Additionally, the TL performance luxury sedan maintained its position as the top-selling Acura, with 5,541 units sold in June, bringing year-to-date TL sales totals to 36,297.
"Gasoline prices are affecting all but the hottest models," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "Given Acura's exciting offerings for 2007, we are anticipating a record second half of the year."
The MDX luxury performance SUV sold 3,539 units in June, bringing its total sales for the year to 24,280 units.
American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted June sales of 126,449 Honda and Acura vehicles, surpassing the previous record set last June, the company announced today. American Honda year-to-date sales rose 7.1 percent to 741,227 units, for the company's strongest first-half sales on record.
Honda Division posted its sixth consecutive record month with June sales, up 3.4 percent to 111,342 cars and light trucks. Record June Ridgeline sales of 3,918 units, up 9.3 percent, also propelled the truck to its sixth consecutive monthly record.
Continuing its success since redesign, the Civic posted a gain of 3.9 percent with sales of 26,312, including record June Civic Hybrid sales of 2,601 units, an increase of 40.4 percent over same period last year. Strong demand for the new Fit continues to outpace supply, limiting the sub-compact's sales to 3,747 vehicles.
"Honda small cars are hot again," said Dick Colliver, executive Vice-President of American Honda. "We are selling every Fit and Civic our assembly lines can roll out."
Honda Division total sales for the calendar year of 644,926 reflected an increase of 9.8 percent compared to last year's results. Year-to-date Honda light truck sales are up 7.1 percent, with 284,866 sales of minivans, SUVs and pickup trucks compared to the previous year's record setting pace.

We feel like AutoWeek must not need to worry about those "embargo"-things, it's like they don't seem to apply to the folks with the once-a-week web updates. The Acura TL sedan will go on sale in China next month. It is the first U.S.-built Acura to be exported to that country. The top-of-the-line Acura RL, built in Japan, also will be exported to China this fall.
They will be the first Acura models sold in China.
The TL, Acura's best-selling vehicle, is built in Marysville, Ohio. Acura plans to introduce its entire line to China in 2008.
